What Flowers, An Irish Playwright and Ferris Bueller Can Teach Us

“Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine and at last you create what you will.” --George Bernard Shaw

I love this quote from Shaw. There are a lot of reasons we forget to remember our imagination, how it has led us to form important decisions to how it brings us simple sanity every day.

‘I love flowers, they’re fun,’ is as far as my imagination went when I first began working with BowKay Designs. Then one day I saw the slight ripples in the petal edges of the Parrot Tulip, the individual veins of leaves, the tumultuous terrain of a magnolia seed, and I was floored.

In a culture fascinated by structure and moving forward rapidly, I have become a fan of using my imagination daily. It has led me to important decisions, and, some days, sanity. We move fast, wanting to move past the time between moments. We wait in lines, on hold, on the breath between words. Why don’t we use these moments to bask in the stillness, the pause, the ripple in the tulip’s petals?

As it was once said, “Life moves fast. If you don’t look around once in a while, you might miss it.”
